Summary

Twenty-three years striving for the obvious. The cremation of the dead in Greece has been taboo for decades for most of the political spectrum. The influence of the church and the political expediencies did not allow the approval of a law that would allow the creation and operation of crematoriums and when the first law was finally approved, it was drafted in such a way that none of those who had the right to open one, dared to take the risk and come into conflict with the religious establishment.
The "Promise" is a record of the political dimension of this effort, which a man carried on his shoulders for 23 years. It could also be the record of the marathon that has to run every legislative change in Greece, whether it is about human rights issues, such as cremation, or other issues that are in conflict, with established perceptions, stereotypes, anachronisms, traditions that are nothing more than a showcase of financial interests. In the background there is always money.
"The Promise" is a feature investigative documentary in which the protagonists of the "cremation case" unfold an unknown story of political controversy.
